During Readers Workshop the students are expected to read independently using just right books.  During this time, the teacher is conferring with students one on one and in partnerships, meeting with guided reading groups, and meeting with strategic reading groups.  This can seem to be an overwhelming task to organize and implement.  We will explore how to set up this independent reading time in an organized and effective way.  Time will be spent discussing just right book check out and return for student book bins, creating a binder for recording notes (from conferring and working with guided reading and/or strategy groups), and most importantly how to build students' stamina for reading independently for a prolonged period of time.  As we explore each element of the independent reading time, we will have an open discussion and share ideas with each other.  This is a great opportunity to help all of us improve our independent reading time.
